About us
The International Contemporary Dance Festival of Mexico City, ICDFMX, emerged in August 2016 as a project aiming at generating new platforms for the appreciation of national and international contemporary dance in Mexico City. The event foments contact between the audiences of the Mexican capital and a diversity of high-quality dance proposals. Consequently, it advocates for the prevalence of contemporary dance in the social imaginary.
It is the first time that a specialized festival in international contemporary dance is generated in the city. Not only bringing about new performing opportunities for local, national and international companies but also stimulating communication between artistic languages, creators, interpreters, programmers and dance producers from different countries and contexts.
The festival reached 65,000 people in its last edition, with more than 50 companies invited and 150 artists from 26 countries. There were 24 performances, 3 international workshops and the realization of The International Contest for Mature Soloists (dancers over 40 years old).
History
In 2016, Raúl Tamez and Rodrigo González, both dancers and choreographers, realized that despite the diversity and cultural dynamics of Mexico City, there was no international event exclusively devoted to contemporary dance. Therefore, they devised pioneering an unprecedented event.
The festival has grown considerably in its different editions. In 2017 and 2018 it was awarded two “Lunas del Auditorio”. One of the highest accolades for perming arts in the country.
